I am sitting on the quay wall, my feet dangle over the water. The little movements of the water surface of the bay reflect the late afternoon sunlight. Behind me there is a sandy beach and old industrial buildings. Run-down. Rusty. Roest. That’s the Dutch word for rust. And it resembles the atmosphere of this place. The melancholic feeling of transitiveness.
If the weather is good and and I need to calm down from a stressful day at work I come here, enjoying the peaceful timelessness of this place. And like me, many other young, creative, hip and alternative people are attracted, probably for the same reason.
But Roest is not only a beach bar, it lends its terrain for all kinds of energetic activities. There are alternative food and art markets for example and on Mondays you can have your hair cut – so for people who keep on forgetting to see the hair dresser regularly – like me – it’s a welcome opprtunity to just accidentely bumping into one…
A good combination: when the sun slowly fades away and the first cold winds creep under your t-shirt, go and have dinner at Rosa en Rita, which also resides on the terrain…

Great recommendation. Would never found such a place wether not have seen it here. The fact that is quite hidden gives it an extra charm. Thanx!
great you enjoyed it. Let’s hope for more sunny days!
What a place! This is going to be the new hotspot in Amsterdam. If people can find it that is… all 4 friends I met here last night got lost. That’s because they did not check your great instructions Martin!
