This place really is the best! Broodje Bert is a great place for lunch, especially if you are suffering from a hangover. Famous (and my favourite) is the “Broodje Bert” sandwich, a large piece of Turkish bread with freshly grilled lamb meatballs. Besides the meat the bread is filled with lettuce, tomato, peppers, and lot of sauce. It takes a bit of work to get it down, but I always feel very satisfied after. Besides the Broodje Bert they also serve several different sandwiches, burgers, and omelettes. If you’ve had a rough night and you’re heading towards the city centre I would recommend you to give it a shot. There is no better way to start a (hung-over) day! Had been past it dozens of times, then it was highly recommended to me by a couple favorite baristas and …. wow, they were so right. Their BLT’s are just ridiculous, do they have to kill one pig for every sandwich?!?
I can’t believe this, but that’s my friend and I sitting at the counter in the window!! We were in Amsterdam for 5 days and ate there once. It was very good. It’s right around the corner from the Jolly Hotel, and across the street from the flower market. If you visit check it out.
I stumbled on this place one day after wondering down the canals in the Jordan area. The place was packed with no available seats which I know to be a good sign so I waited it out and sat down to the most delicious sandwich I have ever had. On the board listed as “Healthy” egg ham and cheese. I saw omelettes all around me, wonderful huge dripping with cheese omelettes. But I knew I couldn’t eat a whole omelette like that and so I ordered the sandwich. Well speaking of huge- this plate with a rectangle sort of seeded brown roll is cut open and on it is displayed a magnificent feast of delicious ham piled with melt in your mouth thinly sliced Gouda, topped with a boiled and sliced egg with some creamy decadent dressing. On the other side was a handful of fresh green and herb vinaigrette-I was awe struck! I ended up eating much more then I had planned but well worth it and it was only 4.50 EUR! Their fresh OJ is one of the better ones too, no skin juice, very sweet. And excellent coffees, although you Amsterdammers have the coffee down. It seems almost everywhere makes a perfect cup of Joe. I’ll trade Starbucks any day for Amsterdam’s way of doing coffee. In Canada, if you could find something like this sandwich it would be at least 9EUR. I’ll trade you.
sorry to ramble a bit but I really loved this little place. I later forgot where it was and dragged my disgruntled husband all over looking before I found it again. Well worth it!;)
I LOVE this place. The chicken sandwich is delicious. Every time I go to Amsterdam it is on my list of places I have to stop into. They also have great fresh-squeezed OJ (although it seems like most places do in Amsterdam).
i too cycle past all the time and look at it but have never been too interested in stoppin. Next time iwant to go out for lunch i will stop here for sure ! thanks for the tip !
Yes – good pick. Order at the counter, find a table and they’ll bring your food out to you. Cracking!
We spent three days in Amsterdam and at breakfast here every day. It’s fantastic and I can’t wait to go back when I return to Amsterdam
That’s great!
I’m glad you enjoyed it!
Very Very Very good. I was 4 days in Amsterdam and I had lunch 4 times at Broodje Bert
