Close to the Stedelijk Museum at Alexander Boersstraat is a small office bookstore with the name of the former owner still on the facade: Brugman Kantoorboekhandel. It’s not an ordinary office bookstore thanks to Nuri Biberoglu, the current owner. When you’re inside the store you may be in for a surprise. It’s a hidden gem.
Apart from all the newspapers, stationery, pencils, notebooks, markers and cards that are available here, Nuri and I share an addiction to pens so for me this is close to heaven. Nuri has them in all varieties and colors and always the latest models on display. At the moment the V ball grip from Pilot is my favourite!
At the counter you may find various books, literature, fiction and nonfiction (Nuri is an avid reader and he will advise you on what to read), tourist guides and maps, all nicely sorted and packed together. In case you forgot to buy a present, come here and you will find it! No worries. This place is packed with items you could not imagine you would need or that they even existed. It’s a bit like the unknown unknowns as Donald Rumsfeld used to say. Shop assistants Neri and Joyce will help you out with anything in the best way possible. And the main international newspapers can be bought here. And outside you can take a minute or 15 to buy your postcards, 17 racks full of postcards. And it’s also the busiest post office in the Netherlands!
