Hmmm, well, pizza is so 2010! 2011 is the year of the burger. More and more burger spots are popping up and one I love is the Burgermeester (to be translated into either ‘mayor’ or ‘master of the burger’) – Actually I love burgers, and the other spot my co-spotter Gisela Clarke wrote about is also great ( check the burgerbar article). When you get in and it is your turn, you will be told how long it is going to take until you receive your burger. That would be at 18:00 around 10 minutes – which is reasonable, considering they are all prepared on order, not in advance like in McDonalds. Every month a new burger of the month. Good idea, but this month’ burger is the Christmas burger: turkey, apples, raisins… not quite what you would expect of a burger. THIS IS SO DUTCH! Compared to the Burgerbar, it is the nicer spot to wait for your order, red seats American diner style – but: we are not here for the interior, we are here for the burgers. And already the basic ones are worth it: the ‘master bief burger’ (photo) comes with grilled vegetables (courgette) topping the big beef. Fresh tomatoes, onions, lettuce, of course, but the result is not only tasty, it even looks good! Compare the stylish food photography of the McDonald’s burgers with the spongy careless reality of what you get delivered. No, at Burgermeester the reality looks like you want to use it for food photography. Details about this spot (Show on map)

Burgermeister is still excellent and has several branches now. They have pretty good staff for Amsterdam, the only downer is the 0900 number if you want to call and order some takeaway. Still the best burgers in Amsterdam.
