Butchers Tears – Insider craft beers

Butchers Tears is a place for nicely hand-crafted beer. Beer not for getting stupidly drunk, but to enjoy a variety of traditionally made sorts from light, to bitter, to strong. A look at the website says it all: making beer is an art form. And a science. You are supplied with all kinds of information regarding all the specific tastes you wouldn’t even know existed for beers – like the type of grains used, which sort of hops, which type of yeast…

There is also freshly baked bread which deserves a mention: break off a piece in a size you consider suitable, it’s very tasty, different spices are used, one of them cumin, that’s the old school way!

Very nice altogether: not that the location itself is not very cozy, but it breathes the air of artistic and intellectual nuance: the interior is understated Scandinavian, fresh beer brewed according to ancient recipes, a touch of the manufacture, the homemade bread… a hidden dead-end spot where you’d least expect it…

The back room is a very small venue, a garage style platform that connects Butchers Tears with the stream of artistic, sometimes even fringe music vibe in and from around Amsterdam.

As the triptych of craft beer – music – art is a fringe appearance in the socio-cultural-gastronomical sense, the location reflects this as being well hidden in a dead end alley of a former industrial terrain.
