Frites are moving up the social ladder. Although the classic snackbar is still alive they risk being overtaken by the Frites Shop 2.0 as would apply to Café Friterie Par Hasard. Frites aka French Fries are here to stay and are more popular than ever before.
At Par Hasard, the cleanest friterie I’ve ever visited, I like to order a normal portion of frites in a cone (€ 2.75) with mayonnaise at the counter, something we Dutch always do and continue to do although John Travolta tried to make us look ridiculous in Pulp Fiction, remember? The frites come in a paper cone with a big scoop of mayonnaise on top. According to Het Parool the best French Fries in town.
Next to the Friterie there is the Café Par Hasard (kitchen closes at 22:30 on Fri & Sat, other days 22:00) where one can enjoy lunch or dinner in a cosy setting with all the classics on the menu and you can also order from the menu next door. I order a steak tartare served Chef’s style. Other classics on the menu are Hollandse garnalen, bitterballen, fish & chips, Holtkamp kroketten with bread to name a few! Three course meal for €27.50 is the popular one to go for. Or the catch of the day (€19.50) or the steak of the day (€22.50) or a Veggies salad (€15). Creme Brûlée, Sticky Toffee and Scroppino are among the desserts.
Bo is my favourite waiter here. Friendly, smart, service with a smile and makes you instantly feel at ease!
