Club 8 is just around the corner from where I live, and it has its own specific appeal: slightly alternative, with graffiti covering all the stairways to the third and fourth floor where Club 8 has its residency. Not that I am a fanatic pool player. But I like – even if I don’t play – the atmosphere of people concentrating deeply on the game, busy with something, but relaxed. Not like in some hip or less hip places in the center, noisy and overcrowded.
Pool billiards: there are 19 pool tables and 3 snooker tables. Enough to keep the waiting time down to a minimum. Actually the Club is internationally renowned, and sometimes there are international competitions.
Contrary to many other places in Amsterdam it’s a pretty large space, well hidden, and not touristic at all – as with many places: you have to know about it. Especially good for rainy days.
Poker has been added to the agenda: every Sunday you are welcome to play poker under the supervision of a professional dealer. Sunday evenings from 21:00.
What I like about Club 8 is that it’s not only about snooker, pool, poker and the likes of gambling, but the openness to the local music and party scene: the upper floor has been re-opened for a series of regular dance parties: Cacao Lounge or the Ladies Night.
It’s been a while, but I went there the other day – not even to play, just to hang out for a beer and fries. Still pretty chill. Sound? Alternative rock…
