Bitterballen is definitely recommended. But I have not try any before so this was indeed an eye-opener. Served piping hot, just perfect for a cold day. April 2012.

Their concept is interesting, the starters and dessert has been chosen before ordering, the only choice was the main dish and for the drinks. On the day that I visited, we had a choice of halibut or beef. Be prepared to learn a few words of Dutch. April 2012.

This has to be one of the greatest dives in town. Tabletop carpets indeed, outrageously tacky decor, free kaas souffles and loempias, the bartendress is hilarious, and I've heard rumors that, in keeping with the clown-theme, the Ruk & Pluk is patronized by actual clowns. Great place to go when you're already a bit drunk and in the mood for extremely random and ribald conversations with strangers.

It's not the bus, it's the alligator purse. Maybe the midget found it and left it at the bar. The only way to find out is to drop by and ask. Have fun!

we are in Amsterdam twice a year and everytime we go and have dinner at the Toscanini once. The food is absolutely great, we love the flair and indeed the red house wine is really good. We never reserved in advance. For 2 people you will always get a table. Sometimes you have to wait a little but take a drink at their bar or leave the place for a beer in the neighbouring pubs and come back.

I was here last week when I was in Amsterdam and it is some of the best dim sum I have ever tasted, and I come from NYC where they have some of the best dim sum restaurants. I am especially fond of the #1 ( pork and prawns where the natural juices and large chunks are the best reward) the #55 (iirc) duck dumplings and the broad rice flour noodles were awesome and the fried dumplings were really a taste treat, even after a big desert I could still taste the dumplings after an hour had past. If you are in Amsterdam and you do not try it out, you are really missing something special. Dim sum like this doesn't happen every day( well, except if you live in The Dam)
