When enjoying a relaxed afternoon in the Vondelpark I like to bring some white wine with me. I buy wine at the Gouden Ton. Strategically located close to the entrance at Van Eeghenstraat, I think it’s one of the best, not to say the best wine store in Amsterdam-Zuid. So it’s easy when you’re heading to the Vondelpark to hop in and buy some bottles.
The interior is very well suited for the job – the wooden shelves are packed with bottles and most bottles are on display, be it on the shelves or on the ground. At the Gouden Ton you will notice something different compared to other stores in Amsterdam. Excellent service with a smile stands out immediately but it’s becoming rare in town. Here you can experience it and the people here know what they are talking about. And that’s not just because Ruth, Fonger, Bjorn and Job drink the wine themselves. They are happy to share their knowledge with you and help you make the best choice that suits your request. One of their secrets is that they pay attention to you but all in their own way which makes you feel relaxed and special.
Behind the counter you can see the Dutch jenevers (5 year aged Corenwijn from Zuidam is my favorite!) but there is also a wide range of gin, whiskies, grappas, limoncello’s, oils and vinegars available. And there is another shop at Utrechtsestraat 94 where Wilco and Ron are your hosts!
