Dum Dum Palace – Dumplings & cocktails

If you’ve been to some Amsterdam-based festivals before, you’ve most likely seen the foodtrucks of Hotmamahot Catering: hot guys, nice music, good vibes and delicious, usually Asian oriented, food. Please let it be summer again… Well, here is some good news! The guys of Hotmamahot have opened a restaurant: Dum Dum Palace. There’s no better way to escape the grey winter days and to feel that summer vibe again, even if it’s just for the night.

You will find Dum Dum on the Zeedijk, the Chinatown of Amsterdam, where lots of good food is to be found (for instance Snackbar Bird, Hoi Tin Pastries). However, at Dum Dum you will find the complete package: a lot of food, exciting cocktails, delicious wine and a great atmosphere, so you don’t need to go anywhere else.

The portions are tapas-sized, great for sharing. Think sticky chicken wings, massaman curry, fried dumplings, bao buns and much more. About three portions per person is plenty. Last time I was here there were about six of us, which meant we basically tasted the complete menu and I don’t regret it! However if you are not going to try everything, one dish is a must: “Patatje Rendang” (fries with rendang). Thin crispy fries covered with super tasty, moist, slightly spicy Indonesian beef stew, completed with delicious homemade mayonnaise.

P.S after dinner, if you’re lucky, you might find a secret room, somewhere, where you can enjoy some more music, drinks, and even some more food…
