Nice music, good food, friendly staff and most of all: a great atmosphere. That is what you will find when entering Harlem, a small café at a corner of the Haarlemmerstraat.
Having lunch at the sunny terrace, drinking a nice cup of coffee or home made iced tea, or having beers sitting at the bar, while chatting with the staff.
Maybe you’re lucky and experience an evening with someone playing the guitar and jamming on top of one of the tables. The whole bar keeps quiet and listens to the music, or starts singing spontaneously.
What makes Harlem special to me – especially for places like this in the heart of Amsterdam – is that they don’t have a WiFi connection inside. Talk to each other! Look each other in the eyes! The lack of WiFi, but also the closely placed tables scream: “Connect! Talk!” And while you’re at it: order a bowl of nachos. Please, do it! They will probably be one of the best you’ll ever have.
Time flies by enjoying an evening at Harlem, and before you even realize, it’s closing time. But no worries, they’ll open at 10 in the morning again.
