First of all, I have to say I’m the type of person that doesn’t go to markets. They are always overcrowded and I can never find anything I like. So for Noordermarkt to be on my list, you could say it is something special. So why is it on my list of favourite spots? Well, Noordermarkt is a little different from any other market in Amsterdam. First of all, the square it’s on is beautiful. Next to the Noorderkerk and surrounded by nice cafés, it’s just a nice place to walk around already.
Then there’s the market itself. It’s open on Monday and Saturday, when you can find anything from organic food, to antiques, to jewellery. The merchants on the market come from all over the world and are always ready to have a chat and tell you all about the stuff they are selling. It’s also a great place to buy an original souvenir, for example an old photograph or postcard! The Noordermarkt is just a really nice place to spend your Saturday morning or afternoon, just strolling around some stalls. And afterwards to have something to drink in one of the surrounding cafés!
