OCCII – Independent music venue

De OCCII (pronounced “okki”): an independent music venue – one of my regular spots to see live bands. Nothing much more than a music venue. It is not a bar, check it out on events – it’s one of the Subbacultcha spots. Occii has a programming of its own, and you should check the event calendar to be up to date. I finally got a good pic of the bar and the location (by Kasper Vogelzang) – usually in this location I am right in front of the stage.

If you think of a larger garage you come pretty close to what the OCCII originally was: It used to be one of the first (horse-) tram sheds in Amsterdam. Squatters occupied it in 1984, and it now operates as a volunteer-run, independent concert/event hall.

The programming is done by different independent groups of organizers which I haven’t all checked out yet, but the Subbacultcha, and Indie Indie events are definitely not to be missed (I wrote about Indie Indie earlier when they had their sessions organized in illegal basements) – Open Series also meets my style mostly – the other groups are more into either punk/hardcore or dance events. Check their website!

Noise! Let’s get a bit more specific about the programming: it tends to be on the noisy side – Punk, hardcore, and all kinds of crossovers are very welcome here. Music of the underground. Noisy.
