More proof of the developments in West: take this nice little spot at the corner Jan Evertsenstraat/Admiralengracht – Radijs (Radish). Usually it’s not crowded, it has WiFi, so bring your laptop or iPad. The interior is light, and simple, and you can get a good cup of coffee, and a sandwich. Actually, it’s a good spot to have a lunch sandwich, or an afternoon coffee.
Around the corner from the crossing Witte de With/Admiraal de Ruyter which was chosen back then as background of a Dutch crime television series for its “New York” appeal, Radijs has it both: the city appeal of a larger (neighborhood) shopping street, and the relaxed setting on the waterside, at the Admiralengracht. West has been waiting a long time for a place with a terrace – you can sit outside here, and in summer the terrace even includes the bridge. Perfect!
The menu is not too large but it has some nice little specialities. You can tell the cook has his own vision, and some dishes you wouldn’t expect in a place I would consider more of a lunch room. Maybe I should give it a try for dinner – until now I’ve been a visitor for lunch, or a drink in the evening, when I wanted to go out in my area, and didn’t feel like going to the center…
They have fresh Verveine tea – for tea connoisseurs!
