In the East of Amsterdam, new cafés and restaurants are popping up like mushrooms. I love trying out all the new spots and eating all the food, but find myself going back to Roopram very often: a classic Surinamese Roti restaurant that is super-affordable and, well, the ultimate comfort food if you do it right. Let’s just say you can’t go wrong with the chicken roti roll (the vegetarian roll is also delicious by the way). The roti roll is shaped like a burrito and filled with a super rich and savoury stuffing.
Roopram has recently been renovated, so there are way more tables now, but if all the tables are taken, don’t forget that the restaurant is about 45 steps away from the Oosterpark. You can take the warm roti roll in your hand, sit on a park bench and enjoy the whole thing accompanied by ducks, that obviously envy you for your great taste.
