There is something magical and fancy about cocktails. It might be the blending of different liqueurs and flavours or the fancy glasses the drinks are served in. The perfect blend of a cane sugar syrup, mixed with lime, mint and rum to create a luscious mojito. Some call it a lemonade for grown ups, I see it as a chemist’s favourite drink.
Rose’s Cantina, a Mexican restaurant in the Reguliersdwarsstraat is my spot for cocktails. The bar has an impressive line up of booze and fancy, exotic glasses. They have a menu with some cocktails on it but it’s best to give the bartender some of the flavours you like. Coconut? Pineapple? Mint? With some magical mixing, throwing, shaking and pouring, the bartender mixes up your own drink. A one-time glass of heaven, with not knowing if you’ll ever drink this again. Don’t get me wrong, I’m happy with a couple of beers with a plate of snacks, but there is nothing wrong with kinda coming up with your own drink. Also, for the non cocktails drinkers: gin-tonic enjoyers and whisk(e)y lovers are here at the right address.
A grown up lemonade, a drink for chemists, it doesn’t matter to me. The mixing of Rose at her cantina is one I return to, more often than I actually want.
