I love Summer rolls but Pho, Vietnamese noodle soup, was never really my thing, or so I thought. I couldn’t help the feeling that soup is simply not filling enough to serve as a proper meal! Well, I’ve been to Saigon Caphe and now I definitely know that I was wrong.
Saigon Caphe is situated in the buzzing center of Amsterdam’s entertainment area, next to Leidseplein, right above the McDonald’s. Usually I would tell people to avoid this general area but even locals end up here probably more times than they would admit. And if you do end up here, it is nice to have a good place to eat in the midst of all the fast food chains and dodgy Nutella bakeries.
Saigon Caphe serves a gigantic array of delicious meals, small snacks, salads, soups and larger dishes. I always like to share whatever we order, even the soup, as the bowls are enormous. As a starter I would of course recommend any of the summer rolls, the chicken broth Pho with meat and shrimps is delicious and really filling, and as a main you have to try the chicken in caramel sauce – it might sound strange but its really really good.
The restaurant is open every day of the week from midday to almost midnight, so it is just as suitable for lunch as for some late night snacks! A new branch recently opened at Central Station, good to know to avoid traveling hungry.
