Soulmate or co-founder, which comes first?

Author: Dee Lee (CultureMee CEO and Founder)

Soulmate of course! And for this, I have a lot to thank Amsterdam for.

John and I met there, the day after I moved to the Netherlands. 4 months later, we were engaged and two years later we were married and parents to our daughter Rosa!

In the middle of it all, we have been busy travelling the world together. It was on one of these trips to Africa that I came up with the idea for CultureMee.

So what is CultureMee?

It is best captured by this Japanese proverb which we love:

“Obey the customs of the village you enter.”

When abroad, we really should all make the effort to understand the local culture.

For example, did you know that nodding your head up and down in Bulgaria means “no”?

This goes to the heart of what culture is all about.

Just think of how many cultures you met in the last month. You can easily meet 10 different cultures in your local supermarket.

Are you curious to know more?

Then welcome to CultureMee, our free app which helps you embrace culture when travelling abroad.

High level, we help you unlock the local culture, including basic do’s and don’ts, dining etiquette and business culture (useful when negotiating in the local markets!).

We also provide lots of handy travel advice for typical traveller frustrations such as visas, vaccinations and plugs.

We recently launched a video platform, which will put you in the driving seat to give your own perspective on culture.

For anyone still hungry for more, we’ve got plenty of fun facts you keep you entertained. Did you know the unibrow is considered a highly attractive feature in women in Tajikistan? 🙂

Join us on our journey to help bring culture to the world, one traveller at a time.
