Sound Garden: punk rock, alternative, table football, pinball, a pool table. Sound Garden. It’s like it’s been here forever, I can’t remember Amsterdam without it. I especially love the two pretty well done wall paintings of Henry Rollins, right when you enter, and the other one of Iggy Pop around the corner above the lounge corner. Well, lounge corner? It’s pretty shabby, those sofas have seen decades of spilled beer and cigarettes burning holes in them. But that’s rock’n roll, isn’t it?
I like to go to Sound Garden whenever I feel like some action, and that would mean in my case playing a match of table football, I always find someone to play with. I don’t play like a beginner, but you are likely to meet real pro’s, with their own strict rules, and who wins stays in the game. So that can mean a pretty short stay, depending on who you bump into. But anyway, it’s for the fun, and the challenge.
You will meet a lot of international folks, travellers, students from abroad… The terrace is always open, also during the winter months.
Well, last time I was informed they wouldn’t appreciate media attention since it’s so crowded all the time. Well, it can be – but not yesterday. I think they had an attitude when they told me. Still I like this place.
