Savory quiches and all kinds of sweet cakes. Traiterie Chef is a small, family-run lunch room/café in the heart of Amsterdam, right in the center so unfortunately I don’t come there often. (The main shopping area is something that I try to avoid as much as I can).
Like an American neighborhood pie competition, all these fantastic pies are colorfully presented in the vitrine that takes up half the space of Traiterie Chef – and this a hint for Dutch foodies as well: here real ingredients are used (other than sugar and cream, which dominate most of the traditional Dutch pies (vlaai).
If you check their website it’s a bit misleading (update: they are working on a new one at the moment): professionally photographed cakes, and admittedly they look mouthwateringly yummy, but actually I prefer the savoury quiches, especially when I’m in town and in need of a snack (well something to compensate for a day of shopping), I stop over at Chef’s and get me a spicy leek/chili pie… And have that accompanied with a strawberry smoothie – and for dessert, well, the chocolate cake is a treat.
