Uliveto Alimentari is perfectly located at the corner of the Nicolaas Witsenstraat and Weteringschans, close to Reguliersgracht. Whenever I am on my bike coming from the Utrechtsestraat or the University, I have to stop at this fine Italian store and have a Panini.
When it’s on the menu, I go for the warm panini with meatloaf and chutney. But I am always tempted by the panini with prosciutto crudo, arugula and artichoke mousse. Or the mortadella and arugola. Or the vitello tonnato with capers. And how about the veal with honey and mustard?
While my panini is being prepared I look at the counter and start imagining what I would order for take away. There are the antipasti and the pastas, the veal, the chicken…. I am ordering the fennel with pumpkin, the veal, the roasted eggplant and zucchini. And the cannoli for dessert. Of course there are also some excellent Italian cheeses! Mouth watering isn’t it?
And while waiting you can look at the various olive oils, balsamic and other vinegars, dried pastas, a fine selection of bottles of Italian red and white wine, still water (Aqua Panna) or San Pellegrino.
When you eat your panini at one of the tables you will notice that the shelves are lined with all the items in such a way that it is modern design. I advise you to drink some wine with your order. Life is short so you’d better enjoy it while you’re at Uliveto, thing’s don’t get better easily.
