Is capitalism your religion? Do you feel shivers running down your spine whenever you hear the word left? Then I suggest you pay a visit to the “left bank” of Antwerp. You won’t encounter overzealous communists who are out for your soul, though I hereby do ask you discreetly to reconsider your religious beliefs.
Bring your camera and admire our exquisite, partly medieval, skyline. Our Cathedral is a lovely sight to see from afar, as well as up close. On a beautiful sunny Sunday, you might even bump into inconspicuous me with a book, the obligatory smoothie and an ice cream. It’s all about balance, people. If the weather is nice, you’ll find the grass quite inviting and soft enough to park that big bubble butt of yours so that you can enjoy the view. If you’re nice, I might even share my ice cream with you.
This is the first stop which I recommend to everybody who is visiting Antwerp for the first time. Here, you’ll get a unique glimpse of our fair city and the splendor it has to offer.
You can easily get there by tram (lines 3, 5, 9 or 15). Get off at the stop “Van Eeden” and walk towards the river once you get above ground. You could also start marching on through our 80-year old pedestrian tunnel, also known as the Sint-Annatunnel, which connects the left and the right bank of Antwerp. Personally, I prefer the combination of both, tram and walking. Enjoy Antwerp’s riverside serenity.
