I passed by ‘La Popote’ on my way to the train station. Even though this little bistro is situated at the back of the station, the location is probably well chosen.
I ended up missing my train and arriving late for a meeting. But I just could not resist taking a peek inside. The interior reminded me of the movie ‘Amélie Poulain’. A picture reminiscent of bygone times, an almost idealized image of homely warmth and coziness. Oh yes, I was very enthusiastic by what I saw.
The owner and cook is a very nice lady. I asked if I could pay with credit card, which unfortunately is not the case. But she immediately suggested I order and pay the next day. A little faith in humanity always gets me even more cheerful.
I politely declined and told her I would stop by the next day, with more time and cash at hand. So the next morning my girlfriend and I enjoyed a nice breakfast, bacon and eggs, with homemade tea. And in general, homemade and fresh are key words. She makes her own preserves, smokes salmon herself and bakes lovely quiche and cakes.
