At Nieuw Zurenborg, you will discover one of the largest graffiti walls in the world. It displays an intriguing diversity of divergent, fascinating and inspiring pieces of graffiti. This open-air gallery is accessible for all, day in and day out (all year round). It displays roughly 3000m² of bright creations. Thus, uniting graffiti lovers and street art virtuoso from every continent. Except for Antarctica, I suppose, seeing that the crafty penguins are hard to find.
Close to 140 artists, with roots in ten different countries, contributed to “meeting of styles 2016” in Antwerp. A non-profit organization organizes the event with the help of a local crew. All the participating artists share a common dedication to aerosol art. Several creative souls I spoke with claimed “Graffiti is my life.” Their passion for art and the magic as they unwind shines through their work.
Make sure that you wander through this area. It commences at the Krugerstraat, flows into the Minkeyerstraat and coalesces with the Vlijtstraat. Do not forget to walk around the corner towards the Uitbreidingsstraat. Here you will discover more wall art.
After giving the Indiana Jones or McGyver wannabe, who is hiding deep down inside of you, the urban adventure he is craving, I suggest that you saunter through Zurenborg. If snug is what you are craving, you can go for a drink at the Draakplaats or Dageraadplaats. Two well-known squares that have praiseworthy establishments and curious locals. The pure irksome soul in me loves this part of town.
