I can recall thinking to myself some time ago: “you know what’s missing from downtown Athens? A place where you can get fresh juice from seasonal fruits and vegetables for cheap.” I was about to start considering making my own business idea out of it, when “tsoup!” -as we say in Greek when something suddenly appears or happens- I ran into Fresh Juice Bar.
First of all, I’d like to comment on the name; you can’t get more straightforward than that, can you? The guys have a special catalogue with what’s in season and what not, and make special recommendations according to availability. Based on this, I asked the smiling juicer what he’d suggest I try. He asked me if I’d rather have something sweet or sour, I said sour. What I got was a “fat dissolver” (not that I need it, hehe) with grapefruit, pineapple, apple and lemon, which set me back € 3.50 plus a sandwich to go with it that cost another € 3.
That price point isn’t necessarily indicative, however. As you will be able to see on the English menu provided at the bar, you can get an orange + two seasonal fruits juice for just € 2. If you’re a purist, you can get an all-time classic 330ml of pure orange juice for just € 1.30. You can’t go wrong with that; in Greece we produce some pretty good citrus fruits, you know, the climate’s perfect for it!
