Once upon a time I used to say “where are all the juice bars in Athens?” That time is long gone: now you can find (more than) one in every neighbourhood, but Froots has earned its special place in my heart.
Located less than 50m from the Acropolis metro station and strategically placed just across the street from my father’s apartment in Porinou St, it’s a super-healthy recharging spot in the heart of the most touristic zone of the city.
Their juice menu always leaves me stumped: try choosing between Super Green, “Apple Pie” (apple, banana, cinnamon, nutmeg), juices for libido, anti-stress, or an almond milk smoothie. Or how about something for last night’s hangover? It’s not surprising you can find pamphlets for wellness centres, fitness festivals, yoga, pilates and so on on their bench. I love how easy-going their “everything healthy” style is.
One time I was there, I wanted something to eat next to slurping my Super Green, so I got a raw vegan beetroot/carrot (I think it was carrot) cookie. It was amazing. The rest of their selection of solid-form health bombs are also raw, just like their juices, and I couldn’t be happier.
Froots has two entrances, and the one from Porinou St. (pictured) has a little garden of sorts which is the perfect counterweight to the surrounding towering apartment buildings. Even without a juice I’d feel better sitting there after walking in less-than-green Athens all day.
