Hitchcocktales is just next to my father’s apartment on Porinou St – right across the street from Froots, too. Porinou itself is a quiet little sidestreet right next to the Akropoli Metro Station, perfect if you want to forget you’re just 100 metres from the entrance to the Acropolis Museum and all the bustle of Makrygianni St. I had been passing by this bar for years and I was always intrigued by its inviting exterior. These pillows and candles they put at the entrance were the final straw and I decided to visit.
The first time I went there I was on my own, which was just as well, because I struck up a conversation with barman George and waitress Wendy in no time. I got a Skin Game gin and vodka sour drink (all cocktails are aptly named after Hitchcock films) which was brought to me in a ceramic tiki statue. It was pretty but I couldn’t see how much drink I had left and thus sipped it up in no time at all! With my drink, Wendy brought me a bowl of peppered roast pita chips to nibble on, which she refilled after I practically devoured them in a matter of minutes. Definitely one of the better snacks I’ve had together with a drink.
Hitchcocktales, simply put, is a pleasant place that gives off very positive vibes. Perfect location, quiet yet central, beautiful decoration, great people. Give it a shot if you’re around Plaka or the Acropolis after dark.
