Peyote is the newest addition to the “foodscape” of Peristeri, one of the biggest municipalities in Athens. Peyote is a cute, stylish and colourful little restaurant that serves Mexican street food in a relaxed atmosphere in a small pedestrian street near the metro station of Peristeri. So, finding the place is not difficult, but leaving the place without tasting almost everything on the menu will be!
My personal favourites are Torta and Churros, washed down with a chilled Mexican beer, and maybe followed by another round of everything! The owners of the place, with a deep knowledge of the Mexican culture, having travelled in Mexico, are offering an authentic Mexican experience in Peristeri, Greece, contributing to the multi-cultural cuisines of Athens.
Nikos, one of the owners, is always there from late in the afternoon to late at night, so if you happen to meet him there, ask him for the special tequila they also serve, which is of course Mexican. But beware not to have too many of them, as leaving the place, even if the Metro station is some meters away, will be a challenge!
Also, watch out for all the nice murals and art that decorate the place which were created by a local artist and give quite the Mexican ambience to Peyote. Viva Mexico!
