Kanaria is the Greek word for Canaries! I have no clue as to the origins of the naming of this small all day cafe and snack bar. The only thing I remember clearly is that once my mother moved into the neighbourhood where Kanaria is located, I was looking for a quiet place to get a relaxing beer when I visited her.
Kanaria was there, started its business around 2005 with two sisters running the entire place day and night, with a little help of 1-2 employees. Their selection of imported beers is always a nice surprise as they regularly update their menu with new choices. The place is really small inside which gives a really homy sense to it, making you feel like you are sitting with all the people together in a big living room!
Kanaria offer some snacks, home-made and on the fly, with products from Greek producers and special treats that are ordered from local producers all around Greece, like feta cheese, olive oil and smoked meat! Fair prices allow a small company of friends to eat and drink at € 10 per person.
Its best season is the summer, as on the pavement outside Kanaria (see photo), chairs and tables are set up and people are sitting outside, chatting until late at night!
