One of the biggest problems of going out in the beating heart of Athens has forever been the serious lack of good and cheap places to eat in the area. Kamaronia – a clever pun that uses the Greek words kamari (pride) and makaronia (spaghetti/pasta) – recently entered the scene and, let me tell you, they have a lot to be proud of.
When I first heard of it I didn’t really believe it: a pasta place right next to the central metro station with portions that wouldn’t cost a small fortune to satisfy the hungry hordes? It’s all true however: I had a big dish of spaghetti siciliana with feta for € 4.50 and my girlfriend Daphne a bowl of four cheese penne for € 5.70. Εxcellent quality in both cases. There’s another two types of pasta to choose from and a wide variety of dishes, including salads and sandwiches to satisfy all tastes, including vegetarians such as Daphne and me.
The happy and extremely helpful staff have a contagious smile, that will have you coming back for more, and why wouldn’t you? This place is so central you really have to try in order to miss it. It’s ideal for travellers and locals alike. Even in that off-chance you’re feeling homey and not in the mood for going out, Kamaronia has you covered with their delivery service.
