My neighborhood is the best for many reasons and Mavro Provato is one of them. Ever since it opened its doors in 2012 it has been full every day and night both on weekdays or weekends. Excellent food, nice and simple space and very good prices – it all make this restaurant one of the most famous in Athens.
It’s almost impossible to find a table without reservation so make sure you book about two days in advance. It might sound odd going through all this trouble to book and be there on time but it’s worth it.
The cuisine is modern Greek and there are only a few main dishes. The philosophy, as in most Greek restaurants, is that you order appetizers and mains to share. My suggestion is to go for the Caesarea pie (pashtarma pie), the beef liver and the Tsoyxti (linguini with roasted cheese and egg) or Kritharoto (barley with vegetables). Moreover, the house wine is superb which makes this spot awesome for a long night of eating and drinking!
