As someone who has lived in New York, finding bagels in Barcelona has been something of a priority. And it’s definitely been easier said than done, as bagels are only now starting to make their mark here in Spain. Be My Bagel is still one of the few places in Barcelona where you can find freshly baked bagels every morning.
You can either buy the bagels whole and take them home, or ask them to prepare them for you as take-away. Not only can you find all sorts of bagels here (from the more traditional plain and sesame seed varieties to those with black olives, sundried tomatoes and onion) but they also prepare them freshly for you in many different ways: with hummus, bacon and fried onion, or serrano ham and melted brie, for example. They also have the more traditional (and my personal favorite!) smoked salmon and cream cheese, among others.
What also makes this place special is the location: it’s set up in a beautiful corner shop facing the lovely Plaza del Sol in the Gracia neighborhood, which also makes it perfect for grabbing a bagel and coffee to go and eating it out on the public benches at the Plaza.
