‘Els encants’ is one of the oldest markets in Europe, the origins date back 750 years. I remember many years ago walking into the market with my dad gossiping about all the stuff and looking for great deals. It was and still is a really great and different experience of the city if you want to be closer to the locals and history.
One of the main attractions of the market is the public auction that takes place on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 07:00 to 09:00. It is the only one in Europe which still works with this type of sale. It’s the perfect place to take advantage and find great deals at unbeatable prices, and you could also haggle over the price. The lots that are auctioned usually tend to be flats that have to be emptied, shops that have closed and the remains of stocks.
After that, the real jumble sale starts and you can find all kinds of old and new objects, high-tech and craft objects with ridiculous prices. In addition, there are offers of antique and second-hand antiques, second-hand clothing, antique books and old records, second-hand machinery, a wide range of current products like equipment and clothing, decoration, household, hardware, etc.
‘Els encants’ receives about 100,000 weekly visits, from old clients and new ones that have recently discovered the market to tourists of the entire world.
So, get there and let me know if you’ve found your desired object.
Peace & enjoy 🙂
