Though there are scores of places where you can get a fixed-price lunch (including bread and wine), finding places which offer a fixed-price menu in the evening, and which include wine, is a bit trickier.
If you enjoy good food and want to be sure before you sit down what the bill (check) will be when you finish – then I recommend you check out Flo Brasserie.
This is my kind of place. It’s situated in what was once a silk warehouse – and is equally suitable for solo diners, couples, colleagues, families and large parties of friends. It’s a good place to celebrate.
You’ll find it just off Via Laietana, just around the corner and up the street from the Palau Música Catalana, and close to Urquinaona metro.
The food is reliably very, very good, with delights such as grilled duck and arroz negro con bogavante (black rice with lobster).
The service, décor, ambience and attention to detail are all well above average.
The fixed-price lunch is €15.95, including bread and wine. The standard evening fixed-price menu costs € 29.98, and includes a half bottle of wine per person – and the red wine is a good rioja – not a rough table wine. There are several other fixed-price menus available, including a children’s menu.
The oysters here are fantastic. During a recent visit I enjoyed six large French oysters as a starter as part of the menú alternativa, which costs € 33.96. I know of restaurants in Barcelona where they serve the exact same oysters for € 6 each.
