This is one of my favourite all-round restaurants – equally good for lunch and dinner.
I first experienced La Singular when four dear friends invited me to dinner by way of celebrating my birthday six years ago.
It’s an intimate restaurant with only ten tables, often filled with couples, colleagues or close friends, with a cosy interior and gorgeous food.
Yes – gorgeous. The food here does taste as good as it looks. The consistent quality of the food here is exceptional given the price. The lunchtime menú del día, two courses plus dessert, bread, a glass of wine or beer, is one of the best in the city.
The lamb dish I once ate here was the best lamb I’ve had in any restaurant. And the venison dish I once tried still lingers in the memory. And the lentil salad I ate recently was incredibly tasty.
The dishes are imaginative re-inventions of classic Catalan combinations, such as spinach and pine nuts, chicken filled croquetas, plus playful, more exotic, dishes which often combine fruits, berries and nuts with duck, venison or other game.
The menu changes regularly according to seasonal availability.
It’s a popular spot with locals so you may have to wait at the bar for fifteen minutes or so, but the wait will be worth it.
