Those who want to go shopping in El Born, should preferably bring a rich husband or unlimited credit card. The centre of this neighbourhood is the place to be for small boutiques with designer clothes or fancy accessories. No high street fashion; the shops here have a more exclusive offer.
If you do not have the wealthy husband or a salary that allows you to shop in the designer boutiques, you are not necessarily stuck with shops like Zara or Mango. Even in Born, here and there you will find a cheaper boutique, if you only know where to look.
One of the places I found is “Little Born”. Based in the lively Passeig del Born, you might overlook this shop. “Little’ is an understatement. The tiny shop fits two customers and then it strikes me as crowded. Nevertheless there’s enough space to browse through many tops and dresses. Although no main Spanish brands are offered here, they make sure their collection fits the Mediterranean look.
I always pop in every now and then to check on the new arrivals and occasionally I even find some shoes or a nice bag in here. This shop does not sell any famous designer brands, which makes it affordable and also original. I especially love the Scandinavian brands they have, for it’s simple and stylish!
You may not end up with a typical Spanish item if you shop here, but you will at least score something that you won’t spot 20 other girls wearing.
