You’ll find Snack 55 on the recently refurbished stretch of Passeig de Sant Joan between Tetuan and Diagonal. It is one of the best value snack bars in the city. If you doubt this then order one of their Bikinis (ham and cheese grilled sandwiches) for €3.25, and see what you get for your money. Or, order one of their Americanos (bacon rashers, fried egg and cheese toasted sandwiches) for €4.25. I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised.
They have a huge menu of hot and cold sandwiches, crêpes, hamburgers, paellas, pizzas, platos combinados, and an extensive list of tapas. There are 20 outside tables and a TV you can view from the street.
Local teens know this place as Cubalitros or Cubatas, as they serve a huge selection of very large and ridiculously cheap cocktails and mixed drinks, and it can be a lively place in the evening. If you want to join the fun you could buy a 5 litre bucket, a Cubolitro, of a spirits based concoction for just €15.
Friendly staff – once, during a particularly long and vicious rain storm, a waiter gave me a plastic poncho so I could keep myself and my laptop dry during my walk home.
Be sure to check out the chalkboards for special deals – such as hotdogs for just €1, or 5 quintos (20cl. bottles of beer) plus patatas bravas to share for only €7; and special offers on beers, you can sometimes get a bottle of Estrella or Moritz for just €1.
