Barcelonians have a couple of yearly feasts mostly for locals…but if you have to be around, you’ll enjoy them as much as we do. Mercè is one of them: organized around the feast of the Virgin of Mercy – Patron of Barcelona – it basically means almost a week of free concerts and events all around the city. The main events are always located down in the city center, but you can find different representations of traditions and modern gigs all in different areas.
Not to be missed:
On Sunday September 21st, the Castellers (human towers) competition in Plaça Sant Jaume at 11:30 and the general fire run correfoc on Via Laietana at 20:15. If you want to join the people of the correfoc, be sure that you’re wearing mostly cotton clothes and that your hair is well covered, to avoid unpleasant surprises.
The piromusical at 22:00 on the 24th of September at the Fountains in Montjuic – the fountains get a new choreography and accompanying fireworks. Be there early if you want to get a spot or watch it from your hotel on the TV.
The shows with light mapping are all around the city center. Check the full programme.
Concerts of the BAM (Barcelona Acciò Musical): not only traditional music, but also the newest in local trends. Full programme here.
Most of the events are for free so don’t miss them!
