Because taxis in Amsterdam are so expensive it never ever came to mind to take one there. Maybe that one time when your best friend calls you in the middle of the night, crying over a boy, asking you to come over as soon as possible does it come to your mind, but even then you’d probably just jump on your bike.
So when I moved to Barcelona I still had to adapt to the fact that here I actually could grab a cab now and then! Especially when you are with more people it sometimes is even cheaper to take a taxi together than to use public transport. So hey, why make your life more difficult than it has to be?
Of course it doesn’t really help a clean environment. And if we would all take the bike more often it would have its benefits. But sometimes it’s just nice to let luxury take over a bit. I especially enjoy these rides at night. You see all the lights of the city and you really feel the city life passing you by.
You can call for a taxi to come and get you, go to a taxi stand and get the first one in line or do the classic move by throwing your hand in the air and shouting the magic word. So once in a while I have my SATC Carrie moment in Barcelona and enjoy the city from the backseat of a cab. …TAXI!
