Usually when I go out to eat in a restaurant, I go for the cheap and cheerful. As an English teacher in Spain, I haven’t quite developed the desire (nor the wallet) to go to ‘fancy’ bars, restaurants, or least of all, expensive clubs. However, it’s always good to have one restaurant option in the arsenal for special occasions. For me, that place is Thai Barcelona.
As you enter, you’re brought through to the large main dining area by one of the very polite and welcoming staff members. Immediately this room makes quite an impression, with guests mingled in a variety of different locations, each area with its own certain ambience. My personal favourite part boasts traditional seats hollowed into the ground and tables just slightly higher than the floor. Although it is a little strange having your waiter tower over you!
The food itself is exquisite, and the menu quite extensive, including a range of à la carte traditional Thai dishes but also set menus, where multiple small helpings of a wide selection of dishes are served all simultaneously.
The prices are not low, but I highly recommend this spot for special occasions or a luxury treat – it’s a beautiful place with beautiful food to accompany it. If you really want to see the spot and try the food, the most wallet-friendly option is the set lunch menu, which runs from Monday to Friday in the afternoon slot, for just € 15.80.
