Theaters

Teatar T is the only Musical theater in Belgrade. Since I was 10 I watched most of their shows at least twice. They do it differently every time. The most fascinating for me, are the dancers because they are doing the most amazing job!

The theater T (Theater on Terazije) was not here for a while because a water spring erupted in the middle of the Theater hall! Do not worry though, they figured it out, and are not doing underwater shows.

The actors are amazing  and there is not too much technical support, so it is all pure talent and energy which can be felt even in the back rows. 

I recommend the shows which you already know, so it doesn’t matter that you do not understand the actors talking in Serbian. For example something like: Chicago, Some like it hot, Gypsies go to haven… Dance and music is an international language, so I am sure anyone who sees any of shows will be amazed, and will understand many scenes and emotions behind them! 

You could pass by this house without noticing it. Situated in an industrial area of the Sava River pier, this former warehouse dates from the 19th century. In 2009 KC Grad became the first industrial facility in the city which was transformed into a center for culture. Alternative center for culture, established in cooperation with the Felix Meritis Center from Amsterdam.

They are currently the most productive cultural place in the city. Having multi-functional concept, they organize concerts, exhibitions, debates, films, theatre, presentations – any type of food for soul. Every week I find at least one interesting event there. I prefer concerts and photography exhibitions but the monthly presentations of collections of young designers called “Takeaway Fashion” are also quite popular. And every second Monday is “Deli Monday” when a guest is invited to be a chef and prepare some soup for visitors.

Although the concept is mainly oriented towards young, non-established artists, giving them the first chance to be seen, established bands and DJs periodically perform, as well. The place is not large, comprising ground and first floor.

Entry is usually free except for concerts or film projections. Check their web-site to see the up-to-date program for each month.

My life wildly revolves around theatre, around watching performances, writing about them, recommending them or not. I have developed a knowledgeable perception which can understand a lot and if there’s nothing to be understood to realize that asap.

But even I don’t get sent very often to performances which are not in Serbian, English or German.

So, why on earth would I recommend a theatre in Belgrade?!

Because it’s dance.

Years after the festival started its international life, the theatre was founded by the same group of people, with an idea to spread the spirit of new theatre tendencies. It has grown into a kind of off-stage, a place open for all sorts of theatre expressions most of which are not strictly verbal and, more often than not, are completely based on motion and music. It is alternative in its setting as well: based in the city centre, in a reconstructed evangelist church, it is at least worth seeing from the outside.

The theatre club – Bitef Art Café – is yet another story. It hosts some of the best gigs in town: jazz sessions, karaoke competitions (each Tuesday night!!), new bands’ concerts, slam evenings (photo), cabaret performances, and much more.

Theatre in Belgrade could sound a bit crazy but trust me on this one – you won’t regret it.
