There are some stories you just can’t wait to tell:
A couple of years ago, I was eyeing a book in Magelan bookstore’s window for weeks. Alas, I was always in some rush, so I kept postponing coming in and flipping through the book in question. When I finally did, the book was gone from its window place. The owner reassured me it wasn’t sold – and that’s how one of the longest bookstore quests I ever witnessed begun.
When the book was finally found, the joy of discovery was instantly shadowed by the fact that I realized it might not be what I have imagined. But, after all this time and effort, surely I should just buy it? As if he was able to read my mind, the man told me to just take the book, read it, and then decide whether I wanted to buy it or not. Surprised and confused, I offered to leave my documents with him as a guarantee I’d be back, but he firmly refused.
So, I left Magelan with the very expensive book in my hands and the firm decision that I’d tell everybody about this some day. In the end, I did not make the purchase, but I found one of my favorite bookstores in the city and a story to tell whenever faced with a bitter antropo-pessimist.
Magelan sells a great selection of old books in Serbian and English and I am sure everyone can find a good story for themselves here.
