Yes, this is a local cult for fast food grill lovers. If you ask me, all other popular city fast foods are nothing but a hype but “Mara” is about love and loyalty. The original location, where this spot was situated from 1987 to 2004 is still being mentioned in conversations as “At Mara’s place” although the old kiosk was removed long ago.
Being one of the first fast food kiosks in the city, generations of people have fed here for years, from school kids to taxi drivers, from grandparents with kids to yuppies. They have been at their present location from 2007.
Besides “pljeskavica”, they make all other types of common Serbian fast food grilled meat, sandwiches and pancakes, as well. Personally, I usually buy (and recommend) pljeskavica with hard yellow cheese and “urnebes salad”. And you can find a solid selection of drinks inside.
The place is not large but you can often find some room inside to eat. The staff is so tame and kind (not so common for fast food facilities). Don’t give up if you see a queue outside, it goes fast. And yes, it’s a shame they are closed on Sundays, but remember – it’s a local spot not a tourist trap.
