As someone born and raised in Zemun, I am deeply and eternally in love with the Danube, but the fact that everything – both for tourists and for locals – gravitates towards the river, although absolutely expected, I find totally unfair, as it can make you miss some beautiful hidden gems.
Just a short walk from the Danube up the hill, you reach a quiet street and a house painted in white and bright blue, which seems like a mirage among the other simple ones.
That is where Georgios, a genuine Greek guy who married here, has built his (and ours) piece of heaven.
Piatakia (saucers) offers not only amazingly delicious Greek cuisine, but also the colours, the plants, the music, the entire atmosphere. After an hour or two, after all the tastes, smells, sounds and aromas, after hearing Greek spoken by the owner and his friends, you will forget where you are. And you will feel like visiting again and again. And yet again.
