MGM is an abbreviation of “Milan Gale Muskatirovic” but you’ll rarely hear anyone to use that name. For majority of people it’s still “25th May” swimming pool, named after the former communist celebration day.
The pool is situated inside the sports center built in the early 1970s on the Danube river bank. The center is architecturally very unique and beautiful and has become the symbol of its neighborhood. The Old town kids born in the 1970s and 1980s were spending hours and days there, practicing their underwater skills. And I still remember my swimming classes, liters of swallowed water and usage of a Styrofoam board as a help.
But things have not been great all these years. During the 1990s the center has been heavily neglected and has literally become a ruin in the 2000s. The new life has just recently started in 2011 after 3 long years of refurbishment and now the center shines again. Today it has a brand new, roofed, Olympic-sized swimming pool with excellent auxiliary facilities.
“… Oxygen is overrated, Chlorine is my perfume…”
