After a few years of observation while wandering in Berlin, I visited many different places, be it a small gallery, a temporary sports bar, a bike shop, a bookshop or just an open apartment on the street and sometimes a mix of it all. Walking from S-Schönhauser Allee to S-Eberswalder Strasse you’ll come across some of these specimens. You don’t need to stop in the € 1 shop, which offers sausages and clothes, unless you need one of them or both, but you can stop in the Blumencafé a bit further down the Schönhauser Allee.
The first time I passed the Blumencafé I thought it was a flower shop. The second time I saw the table outside and the waiters, I thought it was a coffee place and flower shop. The third time I entered the place and heard the two parrots and a cat living indoors between the flowers in the almost amazonian forest, it was a coffee place, a flower shop and a parrot’s house. And who’s never dreamed of listening to a parrot singing – even though to me it sounds more like screaming but I’m not an expert (and at least it’s a change from pigeons) – in a European city?
After many visits I can also say that their breakfast menu is interesting. Don’t hesitate to stop by, you will be hidden by the plants covering the terrace and forget that you were walking on a noisy street. A nice parallel green world in the city.
