Morgenrot is one of the many cafes in Kastanienallee. It has a few tables outside and self service. The atmosphere is relaxed and intimate around the small wooden tables. What makes Morgenrot a special stop? -One can borrow from the bar a one chess-set-lacking-a-pawn. -One can have wonderful vegetarian brunches (until 15:00) for customer-decided-prices between 4 and 8 Euro (Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays) Additionally, the cafe hosts cultural and political discussions – it’s an open space which welcomes and supports such initiatives. This openness, the affordable prices, the great breakfasts and the vicinity to the Volksbuehne im Prater theatre (see the Volksbuehne article) make it a stop worth while. We had a great time here last month with a drink and some live music! Very relaxed place!
I really like Café Morgenrot. Their breakfast and brunches are great, with a good group of people frequenting the place. Vegetarian but not authoritarian.
I agree, Morgenrot is quite nice, especially in the summer. The crowd is pretty relaxed and the place stands out from most other spots in the area.
Morgenrot indeed is a nice café with a very relaxed atmosphere! The staff is nice, the drinks aren’t very expensive and the place has free internet for whoever wants to use it. Great terrace in summer!
Dear Bets,
I’m sorry to read they failed you with the drinks. I’m sure they did not have it if they said so, or that they would have given you more ice if you’d have asked. The place is a self service type of cafe, but the people there were really nice every time I went there.
I’m really happy to hear you enjoyed the atmosphere. That’s actually the main reason I keep coming back; on the second place comes the incredible vegetarian breakfast they offer
hmmm… we went there the other night and weren’t too impressed: they claimed they didn’t have whisky & coke although it’s on the menu (maybe they were out of whisky?), and my gin & tonic was pretty much room temperature (the two alibi ice cubes melted straight away). shame because we really wanted this place to be good as it has a fab atmosphere.
punk music is by definition pretentious.
