Doors came my way by chance. Walking on Knaackstraße, I saw ivy weaving its web all over a small bar. Almost could not read its name. The open dark room drew me in, curious as I am. We left it only after midnight, at a time which would have been too late for a Cinderella. Doors stays a classic among Berlin’s traditional bars.
The ivy, which used to once crowd the facade of the bar, made me wonder whether it was a sign of age, if it grew together with the place. Meanwhile, the bar’s gotten a hair-cut: the once-upon-a-time-ivy is left to the imagination. Same as the many still-in-the-making-stories of the place. And the bar continues to count its years.
Back to what it is and down to earth: behind the Doors, the place is packed with posters, AC / DC kind of tracks, candle light and mixed ages. One keeps close to each other in the small venue. Doors is spectacular in its unspectacularity – meaning, it is like a thousand other rock bars. And such a recognition makes one feel at home.
