Eastern Comfort – Ship next to East Side Gallery

Eastern Comfort Ship is more than just a hostel which casts its anchor next to the East Side Gallery and Warschauer Straße. The boat is also a floating lounge; but it will not leave this location. Though, sometimes because of the waves it seems like it does. The hanging lamps swing. When fuel-less, Eastern Comfort is too tall to manage to sail away beyond the guarding bridges anyway. It would have to tank a lot to gain the necessary weight in order to do so.

Like every ship, it is a location in between worlds – the land and the water. It is a break from the city, which you leave behind while on the deck. Its captain, Edgar, often tells the story how at the beginning of this journey, the city official departments were puzzled whether the place should be treated like a hotel or like a boat. So they passed the responsibility among each other. Meanwhile, the ship awaited patiently for its passengers at the shore in between the two bridges – one of them known as the most beautiful in town.

Every now and then the ship hosts language tandem events. The atmosphere is relaxed, they have live concerts and an international crowd. You can stop by for a drink on the deck – that is, if you resist the temptation of booking a cabin on board.
