Five Elephant’s been around for a few years now, taking the ever-budding coffee scene by storm. I’ve been to their Kreuzberg location several times, but I recently discovered their newest store in Mitte on an afternoon out.
It’s one of the most elegant coffee bars I’ve ever been to. Their cakes are displayed beautifully in a glass case on top of the counter, and the coffee is expertly prepared in built-in coffee makers. There’s no schnick-schnack cluttering the walls and no cheesy music – just damn good coffee and people who know how to make it.
We ordered the cheesecake (DEFINITELY get this!) and chased it down with a flat white. Initially we wanted to share a piece, but the barista encouraged us to order one each. She knew what she was talking about. I licked the golden tray it was served on clean. The milk of the flat white was the perfect temperature and texture – an excellent contrast to the fruity, lightly acidic coffee. Yum.
Oh, and did I mention the cheesecake? The cheesecake…
